Native rights activist Suzan Harjo spoke to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln on Wednesday and addressed part of her legacy in developing significant legislation.

During a meeting held in the Black Hills in South Dakota in 1967, she recalled that elders kept telling her to help retrieve their sacred items and remains. She made it a focus of her life and was a driving force behind the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act of 1990.
