Citing a repair backlog and a lack of incoming funds, the board of trustees for the Native American Preparatory School has voted to sell its New Mexico campus.

The school is now considering other options, but would like to stay in the state, said president Lee Cook. One option is the former campus of St. Catherine's Indian School in nearby Santa Fe.

But other offers are also being considered, said Cook. Included is an Oklahoma location and another in Minnesota.

The school is currently located in Rowe on a 1,500-acre campus. St. Catherine's is 11 acres.

NAPS opened in 1995 with 50 students. It has gone through some growing pains, including funding issues.

A temporary campus is being considered for the 2002-2003 school year.
