With the help of a computer program, the Nooksack Tribe of Washington is bringing back one of its nearly disappeared languages.

The original tribal language was Lhechelesem. The last fluent speaker died in 1977.

Now, tribal members are learning Upriver Halq'emeylem, which is spoken by only a few elders. Roland Holterman, director of the tribe's education department, says new speakers can be become fluent in a year using the program.
