The school in Kivalina, Alaska, is rewriting its discipline plan in hopes of reopening next week.

The McQueen School was closed in response to complaints received from teachers and staff. According to school officials, students and parents believed the discipline policy was too harsh.

But in order for the school to reopen, the chief executive of the school district says the village must be committed to the policy.
