'Whities' team drawing attention

TUESDAY, MARCH 12, 2002 "The Fighting Whities" is only an intramural college team but its founders have gotten a lot of attention from the media. Conceived by a group of Native students at the University of Northern Colorado, the basketball team says it wants to combat stereotypes in sports. The name is a protest against a local high school which has refused to change its "Reds" name and Indian logo. Get the Story:
