Harnessing power from the sun and through wind were among the topics discussed at the first Alternative Energy Conference in Montana.

The conference took place in Great Falls on Wednesday and opened with an address by Gov. Judy Martz. Martz told the crowd America should be less dependent on foreign oil.

Montana and other Plains states are regarded as having high potential to develop wind and other alternative energies.
