Concert decries nuclear plan

OCTOBER 9, 2000

The Honor the Earth tour stopped at the University of Utah on Friday night and the main focus was opposing the plan to build a nuclear waste storage site on the Skull Valley Goshute Reservation.

"Didn't we do enough [to American Indians] before?" asked Bonnie Raitt, one of the performers.

The Goshute tribe has voluntarily agreed to host the site, for its economic development possibility. The plan, proposed by eight electric utilities, was recently deemed safe by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
