NOVEMBER 14, 2000

The wild atlantic salmon on Monday was placed on the endangered species list by the National Marine Fisheries Service and US Fish and Wildlife.

The agencies said salmon were at an all-time low in rivers in Maine. They say they could be driven to extinction.

Angus King, the Governor of Maine, had asked the Deparment of Interior and the Department of Commerce to postpone the decision.
