NOVEMBER 17, 2000

The Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations and the state of Oklahoma are looking for parties interested in buying water from the Kiamichi River Basin.

The state and the tribes would sign a compact to address the sale. Brian C. Griffin, State Secretary of the Environment, says it would help resolve water rights disputes between the tribes and the state. Both tribes claim rights to the water.
