Canadian mine project opposed

JANUARY 5, 2000

Enviromental groups in Canada and the United States are urging the United States to help stop a mine project in British Columbia.

The groups say the project would adversely affect the Taku River and wildlife. The river flows into Alaska.

The Taku River Tlingit First Nation won a court ruling last June that forced the Canadian government to invalidate an environmental assessment of the mine and an access road because it didn't address their issues.
