MARCH 20, 2001

The winter's power outages experienced in northern California spread to the southern part of the state on Monday, as more than a million residences and businesses became the latest victims of the energy crisis.

The state is at a Stage 3 alert. Rolling, or random, blackouts, were felt from San Diego to Sacramento, says The Los Angeles Times.

As the summer approaches, blackouts will probably be more widespread due to increased demand on air conditioners.
