Oil companies spend big in Alaska

Oil companies were among the top 10 biggest spenders on lobbying in Alaska during 2000, according to the Alaska Public Offices Commission.

Phillips Alaska Inc. was the top spender, at $416,447. The company is the state's second largest oil producer.

Other oil companies in the top 10 are: BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. ($299,032), Exxon Mobil ($236,319), Veco Corp. ($179,226), Yukon Pacific Corp. ($117,921), and Foothills Pipelines ($92,295).

An Alaska Native corporation, Cook Inlet Region Inc, also made the top 10. CIRI spent $137,275 on lobbying last year.
