The Department of Interior's Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement on Wednesday awarded a $433,263 grant to the Navajo Nation.

Senator Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) said it will help the tribe protect the environment during coal mining.

"This funding will provide the means by which the Navajo Nation can develop a regulatory program aimed at protecting the environment during coal mining and assuring prompt reclamation after mining," said Domenici.
