APRIL 24, 2001 The US Forest Service has instituted a seasonal ban on recreational shooting of prairie dogs in order to protect an area of Wyoming where black-footed ferrets will be introduced next year. Prairie dogs are the primary prey of black-footed ferrets, once thought to be extinct. The government has been reintroducing the ferrets in an attempt to repopulate them. The Fort Belknap Reservation in Montana is a reintroduction site. It is not affected by the Forest Service's ban on shooting. Get the Story:
