Fishing for tribes non-Indians to begin

Although no violence is expected, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will have extra officers on duty when the fishing season opens May 12.

Ojibwe bands in the state have off-reservation fishing rights secured by treaty. The bands battled the state all the way to the Supreme Court, which upheld their rights in 1999.
