MAY 18, 2001

Environmentalists and Apache activists are planning to appeal a recent federal court ruling that allows the construction of a power line to a sacred site in Arizona.

A federal judge on Tuesay said that environmental and religious protection laws don't apply to power line to Mount Graham. The University of Arizona and the US Forest Service can now move forward with plans to bring power the three telescopes on the mountain.

Mount Graham is the site of an international observatory run by the school. Two out of the three telescopes have already been constructed.
