The chairman of the Montana Democratic Party has written a letter to Republican Governor Judi Martz, asking her to recant her own letter to President Bush which claimed a ban on road building and logging on federal forest land would lock up state land.

But an aide for Martz said she won't recant the letter in which she claimed the state would lose access. A state auditor on Monday disputed Martz's letter and said just 1,320 acres would be affected by the US Forest Service's roadless initiative.
