MAY 29, 2001

President Bush today will meet with California Governor Gray Davis but won't have much to offer to prevent the state from experiencing power outages this sumer.

Davis wants a price cap on the wholesale price of electricity. Bush opposes any federal intervention in a problem he views as the state's.

Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham has ordered the Western Area Power Administration to speed up plans for increasing the transmission capacity of California's power system.
