The Bureau of Land Management is still reviewing 12,000-plus public comments they received on a proposal to allow drilling in the Jack Morrow Hills in southwestern Wyoming's. Red Desert.

The proposal was released last June. The BLM says up to 125 oil wells over 15 years could be drilled can be done without significant impact to the environment.

The 622,000 acres in the Red Desert are home to the endangered mountain plover and a rare type of desert elk.

The BLM has yet to issue a separate proposal that former Secretary of Interior Bruce Babbitt said should learn towards conservation.
