Appeal of Indian oil lawsuit planned

JUNE 1, 2001 A lawyer representing Indians from Ecuador and Peru said he plans to appeal a federal judge's decision to dismiss their case against oil giant Texaco. A federal judge in New York said the lawsuits belong in Ecuadorean courts. Cristobal Bonifaz, a native of Ecuador, will challenge the ruling because he says the court system there is corrupt. The Indians claim Texaco poisoned the rain forest during 28 years of development. Get the Story:
