The lead Democrat in the House against Arctic drilling on Monday criticized the appointment of Cam Toohey as Secretary of Interior Gale Norton's special assistant to Alaska.

Rep. Edward Markey of Massachusetts said Toohey's appointment is a conflict of interest. Toohey was former director of Arctic Power, a pro-oil development lobbying group.

Alaska's Congressional delegation welcomed Toohey's appointment.
