The vice president of Anschutz Exploration Corp. on Monday said the Colorado firm is still considering if it will suspend drilling on a sacred site in Montana in exchange for development rights on the Blackfeet Reservation.

Such an offer was made by a member of the tribe's business council to keep the Valley of the Chiefs site from being developed. The site contains ancient rock art and is considered sacred by a number of tribes in Montana and elsewhere.

The company's right to drill one test well in the Valley is on holding pending discussions with the tribe to determine if the trade-off is worth it, said vice president Bill Miller.
