House working on energy bills

THURSDAY, JULY 19, 2001 The Bush administration appears to have finally found an ally for their national energy policy as members of the Republican-controlled House worked to speed up consideration of energy legislation. House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) has told a number of committees to finish up energy legislation by Friday so that they can be considered by the full membership. Already, the House Energy and Commerce Committee has completed work on an energy bill, following in the footsteps of the House Resources Committee, who on Tuesday approved opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to development. The Ways and Means Committee is working on its own proposals affecting tax incentives for energy research. Tax relief for the energy industry is also in the works. Get the Story:
