After surviving two major fires, the Mesa Verde National Park in southwestern Colorado reopened to the public on Monday, but local businesses are worried they have already missed a crucial money-making period in the summer season.

Admission to the park will be free for two weeks. Some of the park will not be re-opened for about a month, due to the most recent Pony Fire, which burned about 5,240 acres.

The Bircher Fire burned about 24,000 acres in July.
