The Menominee and Oneida tribes of Wisconsin on Tuesday entered into an agreement with state and federal officials about the clean-up of contamination by two paper mills.

The agreement would require the companies to spend $40 million over the next four years to clean up the Fox River. The companies dumped polychlorinated biphenyls, or PCBs, into the river for three decades, starting in the 1950s.

PCBs are linked to health problems in humans and animals.
