Rio Arriba County officials in New Mexico have ordered a local businessman to close his gravel pit mine in El Guique, near the San Juan Pueblo Reservation.

The county says Richard Cook operated his mine on a Sunday, drawing complaints. His operation had previously been limited due to complaints about noise, dust and traffic.

The mine is located on the west side of the Rio Grande, a river that runs through Pueblo land.
