Klamath farmers prepare for water shut-off

Farmers in the Klamath River Basin on the Oregon-California border are hoping for calm today when the Department of Interior shuts off water Secretary Gale Norton had approved for them.

Some farmers say progress has been made on the issue. The Bureau of Reclamation, which is part of the Interior, has denied the water to over 1,000 farmers in order to protect dwindling runs of fish and to uphold trust responsibilities to various tribes.

Other farmers still plan on breaking into the water supply to restore the flows.
