FRIDAY, AUGUST 31, 2001

Scientists on Thursday tried once again to rescue an endangered right whale that has returned to United States waters.

The National Marine Fisheries Service said the whale's infection has worsened. The infection stems from a fishing line caught in its jaw.

There are about 300 known right whales in the world.
