Tribal leader to speak on Vieques

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9, 2001 The deputy tribal historic preservation officer for the Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is in Puerto Rico this week to address a conference on environmental justice. Mark Harding will discuss the tribe's environmental efforts. He will also discuss the tribe's dealings with the Navy. The Navy used an island near the tribe's home on Martha's Vineyard for target practice for 50 years. The Navy is currently using the Puerto Rican island of Viequest for training. Get the Story:
