Okla. compact talks raise concern

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2001 Secret negotiations between the state of Oklahoma and the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations about a proposed water sale have a number of parties itchy about the process. The tribes have rights to water in southeastern Oklahoma. To move forward with a potentially lucrative sale of some of the water to Texas, a compact has to be finalized. But conservation groups are eager to see the compact, which one tribal attorney says should be ready by November 1. Get the Story:
