Indian mounds threatened

SEPTEMBER 5, 2000

The Etowah Indian Mounds in Georgia are just one of many state parks threatened by urban development, according to the National Park Trust, a Washington-based private land environmental organization.

The 1,000-year-old mounds are a historic site in Georgia, where over 8,000 acres of land have been named by the trust as endangered.

Various state and federal legislation are proposed to help protect lands such as these from being swallowed up by urban sprawl.
