The Montana Supreme Court today will hear a dispute between the Flathead Indian Nation and the state of Montana over water rights on the Flathead Reservation.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes want the high court to revoke a water permit the state issued to a non-Indian resident of the reservation. Until their water rights are fully qualified, the tribes say any permits are illegal.

The tribes als contend various state officials should be held in contempt of court. The state has countered that the tribes' lawyer is knowingly making false charges and wants him sanctioned.
