Spokane Tribe apologizes to rocks

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2001 The Spokane Tribe of Washington held a ceremony on Tuesday to apologize and say goodbye to some sacred rocks. Known as Coyote Rocks, the site is home to ancestral tribal fishing grounds. Spokane County is planning on putting a road through the rocks and reached a settlement with the tribe to limit the destruction of as few rocks as possible. The county also agreed to pay $114,000 for an archaeological assessment of the site. Get the Story:
