The Alaska Legislature is proposing to eliminate all state funding for subsistence.

The House finance committee wants to cut $1.1 million from a subsistence program at the Department of Fish and Game. The program largely focuses on research to help the state manage resources.

A hearing was held on Thursday to discuss the changes, which were criticized by Alaska Natives.
