The Bush administration will scale back a policy aimed at reducing pollution from aging power plants, reports The Washington Post.

The Clinton administration instituted the policy to force aging facilities to upgrade their equipment in order to reduce emissions. The Department of Justice also filed lawsuits to force the industry into compliance.

The Bush administration has now decided it doesn't want any more lawsuits. The new rules will instead encourage voluntary compliance.
