Gwich'in activist still at it

Gwich'in activist Faith Gimmell has fought against opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to drilling for years and has been blessed with incredible luck.

Congress in 1995 approved drilling but former President Bill Clinton vetoed the bill. When President Bush took over, it looked as if environmentalists and the Gwich'in Nation were facing an uphill battle but then Sen. Jim Jeffords of Vermont left the Republican party.

Gimmill grew up in Arctic Village where she says spending time with her elders and hunting caribou are her best memories. She spend most of her time today in Fairbanks, coordinating activities for the tribe.
