A new report prepared by the Department of Interior says drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge can hurt the caribou herd and other animals, reports the Associated Press.

The AP said it obtained copy of report, authored by scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Due to be released today, the document doesn't recommend if drilling is to take place but says caribou, musk oxen and birds can be affected.

The report is expected to contain an estimate of how much oil is to be found in the region, according to Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
