Cheney task force losing cases

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 2002

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered several government agencies to release thousands of documents used in the formation of President Bush's national energy policy.

Various groups have been seeking the records but the Bush administration has been slow to release them. Judges assigned to the cases have been ruling against the government, which is also refusing to release certain information related to how Vice President Dick Cheney developed the policy.

As the disputes play out in court -- the General Accounting Office is suing the White House as well -- another federal agency is seeking to limit the information it gives to the public. Citing national security, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has proposed regulations to create a new category of "classified" data on power facilities, The Washington Post reports.
