WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10, 2002

The Department of Interior will transfer a set of coal tracts to the state of Montana today.

The tracts hold an estimated 533 million tons of high quality coal and hold great financial promise for the state and those who develop them. Per an agreement with the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, the state has to ensure local hiring incentives and protection of sacred sites.
