Fishing rights an election issue
NOVEMBER 7, 2000

Canada's Alliance Party in New Brunswick is making the dispute between Native fisherman and the federal government an election issue.

The Party wants non-Native fishermen to vote for its candidate in Miramichi because the Party supports one set of rules for all fisherman, regardless of treaty rights.

In a related story, the Acadia First Nation in Nova Scotia has signed an agreement with the government to get more lobster licences in the commercial fishery.
