Members of the Kanesatake Mohawk community marked the 10th annivesary of the June 11 police raid on Oka resisters with a march beginning and ending at the golf course which was the center of an armed 78-day standoff between the tribe and law enforcement.

But marchers said the struggle for land rights continues even today. Some are questioning a land deal brokered by the tribal council and the government.

The deal will return control of land the Mohawk already consider theirs to the tribe. The land will remain the legal property of the government, but the Kanesatake will manage and operate the land, establishing their own laws, zoning rules, and dispute processes.
