Police from the Uashat-Maliotenam First Nation have arrested some band members for taking part in a riot on the Quebec reserve.

Property was destroyed, the band offices were vandalized and shops were looted, said witnesses. The violence came after the results of a recent election in which Rosario Pinette defeated Élie-Jacques Jourdain.

Pinette is accusing Jourdain of instigating the riot.
