Numerous cases of diabetes are threatening the future of the Ute Tribe of Utah, according to a new study commissioned by the tribal council.

The study was conducted by the Utah State University. Researchers at the school say tribal member distrust the Indian Health Service and health care services, so they wait until their conditions are serious before seeking help.

The average life expectancy of tribal members is 47, while the national average is 76.
