Okla. tribes get diabetes grant

MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2001 Five Oklahoma tribes and the University of Oklahoma have been awarded a $433,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services. The grant will be used by the tribes and the school to try and reduce the risk of diabetes in young Indians. Diabetes is showing up in Indian Country at earlier and earlier ages, say researchers. The tribes involved are the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole. Get the Story:
