Reservations see water problems
A recent water study on two Nebraska reservations, Omaha and Santee Sioux, found that a significant number of water wells exceeded federal standards for nitrate-nitrogen and coliform bacteria. High nitrate-nitrogen levels can lead to blue-baby syndrome and high coliform bacteria can lead to increased harmful bacterial infections. This is the first comprehensive water study performed on Indian reservations, and the researchers believe that this might indicate larger implications for the potential danger of the water supply on Indian reservations
