Pueblo golf course raises water-rights issues
Facebook Twitter Email
The new golf course being built at Pojoaque Pueblo is raising the eyebrows of neighbors and the New Mexico State Engineer's Office. The pueblo does not know its exact water needs yet, but say they will be well within their rights.

The tribe, the state, and neighboring communities are involved in a water-rights case that has been in the courts since the 1960s. A court in the mid 1980s had ruled the practically irrigable acreage (PIA) of the pueblo's land was 100 acre-feet. The tribe contends it has rights to 700 acre-feet.

The first half of the 340-acre, 36-hole golf course is scheduled to open in July 2001.
