Soft drinks bear tribes' names

MAY 30, 2001 Tribal leaders and others are upset with a new line of soft drinks a California company is about to release. Hansen's Natural Corp. has produced the "Medicine Man" line of drinks that will be released in the Bay Area. The four flavors are: Comanche Bitter Root, Cherokee Cloud Berry, Zuni High Desert Melon and Shoshone Prickly Pear Nectar and bear the "endorsement" of a tribal leader on each. In the case of the Cherokee, the drink has the signature of former Principal Chief Joe Byrd. The current administration, however, is opposing the drink and won't accept any payments from it as the contract stated. Other leaders are opposing the names of the other drinks. Get the Story:
