Food industry agrees to more labeling

A number of major food companies have agreed to voluntarily place more descriptive labeling on their products in order to alert customers of possible allergic reactions to ingredients.

The companies will go beyond what is now required, going so far as to list small quantities of items to which some Americans are allergic. Their action comes as Congress is considering enacting stricter labeling standards.
