Tribe combats diabetes epidemic

JUNE 12, 2001 With 200 confirmed cases of diabetes out of a population of 1,400, the Bad River Ojibwe Band of Wisconsin has started a project to return to more traditional and healthful foods. A $30,000 grant from the Department of Agriculture has helped grow a community garden, buy apple, pear, cherry and crab apple trees, and start a greenhouse. Get the Story:
