Women advised against hormone treatment

Hormone supplements do not help women avoid heart disease after menopause, the American Heart Association said on Monday.

Based on the results of recent studies which indicate that taking hormones such as estrogen and progestin have no effect, the AHA is reversing its earlier recommendations. Women who have had a heart attack or stroke do not benefit and may even be at increased risk, said the AHA.
